If we had a nickel for everytime we were promised a barbecue...

If we had a nickel for everytime we were promised a barbecue, a dinner or to see the new furniture, well we wouldn't be rich but we would have many nickels!  We enter our customers lives through a referral or through our own marketing successes and are there for them when they are going through a transition in their lives. There is not enough room to list all of the scenarios but Divorce, Job Transfer,

Up or Downsizing are just a few. When I was new in the business, I remember hearing agents who said, my customers invited me here or I invited them to this event but the reality is that there are very few agents who end up mixing their Real Estate lives with their home lives. It is not that we don't want to be a part of their lives but the reality is, that we…

WE WANT YOU...But not THAT badly

I can't help but notice a large sign in front of a Real Estate company down the road that says, "We are Now Recruiting Real Estate Agents." Each time I pass this sign, I wonder if Realtors want to be recruited? It sounds very militaristic by design. To recruit someone is to target that person for their work ethic, strengths or overall achievements. To be recruited is truly an honor.

With a sign saying that we are now recruiting is paramount to Krispy Kreme having that glowing red light shining in your eyes as you drive by. (Note: I have not seen this personally, only heard about it from others.)

Making a decision to join any company requires research. The old adage that you have to interview them as much as they interview you really applies with Real…

Do Realtor Bonuses Make a Difference?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 11:25am. 65 Views, 0 Comments.

Do Realtor Bonuses and Incentives make a difference when it comes to increased traffic and Home Sales? When agents go for listings, they present themselves first and then what their company offers the seller. If they have done a good job with their pre-listing homework, they look at all of the Actives, Pendings and Solds, not only in the neighborhood, but also in the zip code. We know that Active Listings do not help us when it comes to setting prices or even with the Appraisal but it is interesting to see what percentages are being offered to the agent that brings the buyer.

If there are 30 homes for sale in a neighborhood and 20 of them are listed at 3% and 5 are at 2.5% and 5 are at 4%, does this change the agents mind as to what to show their…

Speak Only When Spoken To

I have been frustrated lately. Frustrated by agents that have themselves so guarded that they are not even letting their customers in..easily. Recently, agents have been resorting to sending online notices about their listings. This practice grew very large a few years ago and all but dried up until now. These broadcast flyers tout everything from open houses, broker's opens and features about their houses. When trying to reply to some of these listings, I have seen that some agents do not put their email address on the flyer. Instead they have a "Safe Lead" response that opens up a dialog box asking to be filled out with all of one’s vital information. This is a lead capture system. There has been a great deal written on making websites too complex for…

What's In a Name? You are Hopefully.

If your last name is, "Sail", it wouldn't be too difficult to come up with something catchy for marketing yourself. Hirschhorn creates a little bit tougher scenario! As a new agent, all you have to do is browse through the hundreds of Realtor ads to get some ideas. Coming up with a play on your name or catchy slogan will help to set you apart from the thousands of other agents in your market place.

I am sure that there are agents who look online to see what agents are using in other markets as well. If there is an agent in California using, "Your Waterfront Connection", if you were in Florida, odds are that you could also use this without any problems. I am not aware of many agents who trademark their slogans. (Not a bad idea though).

Coming up with a…

What Type of Real Estate Agent are you?

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 at 3:41pm. 42 Views, 0 Comments.

When you hear the word, "Agent", what comes to mind?

Hollywood Agent - Helping the stars get work

Insurance Agent - Helping people have security

Real Estate Agent - Helping people find their dream home

The point is that just the word Agent isn't enough. We need to be vigilant in getting our industry into the front of everyone's mind. We need to ensure that when someone hears the word agent, they think of us.

Easier said than done, right?

Real Estate, especially in today's economy, has been through many bumps and bruises. The only thing that has remained constant, is you! You haven't changed. Your goal is still to keep customers for life and provide them with excellent customer service. "But the buyers have gone away", you hear people say. Go find…
